Speaking frankly i have never completed any books that i got of any Indian authors , no matter how many raving reviews they had , except may be for chethan bhagaths three novels .. whether it is the over dosage of metaphors and alliterations or the excessive verbosity in trying to describe trivial things , i dont know what makes me shy away from them..
Then what made me pick up this book ?? well it was the movie " The Namesake " .. its definitely on the list of my fav movies as well as the stunning reviews the book had got ..
For starters the organization of the book intrigued me .. It was into two parts and it was a collection of short stories something refreshing from those 1000 pages that authors here tend to write ..
All of them were about the life of bengali immigrants in the US in the 70s and 80s and also of the present generation .. It is her expected style and the stories had a common underlying thread , but yet they were so different from the others . sounds paradoxial i know , but they were written in the same vein yet were uniquely different
but the second half of the book was the one that truly captivated me . surrounding the lives of two different people it was a collection fo 3 short stories each about different periods of their life .
the emotional intensity with which it was written and the heart breaking ending moved me to tears something that had happened last after reading hp5 when sirius dies..
truly her best work yet .
oi more than shying away i guess it just that none of the other books have a strong story form to engross you in it..what say :P..anywys glad u dint elaborate on d story ...n as u mentioned it will surely read it Ms.Literary :D
